BP 4 - Memorable Photo - GS

Being in Lusaka has me generally disconnected from social media and my life back home. However, the Peace Corp trip for me was total disconnect from even my host family. There was barely any cell reception for those four days and the six of us were all forced to find ways to entertain ourselves otherwise. At home and even more so in Zambia, I do not cling to my phone, so doing so in Choma was not difficult. Our trip was stress free given that the entire was unstructured. We were able to visit the clinic where our PC volunteer, Bertie, works, but we mostly played with the children who lived in the village, helped cook meals, walk around the area, and relax by a nearby stream.

The photo shows Manav and I playing cards on our Peace Corp trip, an activity that we often did, even in our homestays. Many of the games that we played I have not played since I was in middle school and it was nice to have that time. I love playing board games and cards and I do not have much time to play these games while at school. Putting ourselves in an environment which removed us from the distractions of technology reminded me of the fun in my childhood because it was simpler time.

I originally did not want to participate in the Peace Corp trip because I do not like camping or the outdoors. I also thought I would not bear with the not showering for the four days. However, the experience was so unique and made the six of us closer and I would describe it as the most memorable time of this program.
